For conventional automated production lines that require real-time identification of product workpieces, it is recommended to match the ifm E80 series rectangular antenna (model ANT430) with DTI430.

This antenna is specially designed for 13.56 MHz high-frequency identification, which can maximize the reading and writing stability of DTI430 within 100 mm, and adapt to the harsh environment of dust and oil pollution on the production site.

At the same time, it can be connected with the common PLC of the production line through the PROFINET interface of DTI430, which does not require additional protocol conversion modules.

FAQ

Q: Do the read/write head and the ID tag need to be aligned?

A: Yes. The read/write head's antenna radiates axially; the tag must be positioned directly facing the center axis of the read/write head's face to achieve optimal read/write performance.

If the offset angle is too large or the tag is too far off the center axis, the read/write range will drop sharply.

Q: Why is the actual read/write range shorter than specified in the manual?

A: There are three common reasons:

Tag type: Antenna size and sensitivity vary between tag types. A 30mm coin tag might have a 30mm range, whereas a small tag (e.g., 10mm) might only achieve 10–15mm.

Installation environment: Metal objects near the read/write head absorb electromagnetic field energy, reducing the read/write range.

Tag mounting material: Mounting the tag on a metal surface significantly reduces the read/write range; an anti-metal tag should be used instead.

Q: Will multiple IFM DTI430 units interfere with each other if installed together?

A: Yes. The DTI430 antenna can be deactivated using the "Antenna deactivate" bit in the process data output.

When multiple read/write heads are installed in close proximity, time-division multiplexing can be used. Only one read/write head's antenna is active at a time while the others are deactivated, thereby preventing mutual interference.
