FAQ

Q: Does the IFM IFS304 feature short-circuit and reverse-polarity protection?

A: Yes, it has both.

Reverse-polarity protection: Connecting the positive and negative power terminals in reverse will not damage the sensor; it simply will not operate, and normal function resumes once the wiring is corrected.

Short-circuit protection: The output is automatically cut off if an accidental short circuit occurs at the output terminal and automatically restores once the fault is cleared.

Q: Are there specific requirements for installation torque?

A: The IFS304 has a stainless steel housing, but the sensing face is made of white LCP plastic. Although the housing is robust, overtightening can damage the threads or the sensing face.

It is recommended to tighten by hand first and then use a wrench to turn it an additional 1/4 turn; do not apply excessive force.

Q: With an output current of 100 mA, what can it drive directly?

A: The maximum continuous PNP output current is 100 mA. This means:

It can directly drive: PLC digital inputs, small relays, and indicator lights.

It is not recommended to directly drive: High-power contactors or solenoid valves.

If driving a heavy load, it is recommended to use an intermediate relay.
